Christmas Fun for EIC tenants

EIC tenants were treated to the annual Christmas party on Thursday 6th December.

It was a record breaking year for attendees, with over two hundred guests enjoying a buffet and range of games with prizes for the winners.

There was a ‘Pin the Nose on Rudolf’ competition, a Christmas jumper competition and also a virtual reality game kindly provided by VR Simulation.

There was also the raffle, which this year raised an incredible £304 which will be donated to local charities Stay, Newlife Telford and Age UK Telford.

A big thank you to all those that attended and to the catering team who provided an excellent buffet. Merry Christmas!

Interface NRM’s Himalayan Adventurer

Dr Gavin Jordan, a Lead Auditor at Interface NRM, recently spent four weeks on a mountain climbing expedition to the world’s highest mountain range – the Himalayas. Whilst on this daring adventure he scaled the challenging peak of Ama Dablam.

He said of the challenge: “The mountain appears steep from all sides and appears pretty impenetrable. Luckily this is not the case, and there is a ridgeline that leads to the upper face providing a reasonably straightforward route – although still involving a rock pitch of Hard Very Severe and some quite steep mixed/ice climbing, sometimes involving short sections of vertical ice.”

Well done to Gavin – just another example of the kind of people we have working at the e-Innovation Centre!

Interface are a UKAS and and ASI Accredited Certification Body.

Robot Foundry Hosting Talk on Satellite Technology

EIC tenant Robot Foundry will be hosting a free talk by Barry Cook, all about satellite technology and design.

Barry has spent nearly 20 years working in the space industry developing standards and designing ground-based test equipment used around the world by major space agencies and space industries.

There are currently about 1500 satellites operating in-orbit around Earth – and a few more around other planets. Space provides an environment that is both beneficial and problematic. Freed from Earthly constraints, new and better scientific studies are possible but there are also new and more extreme challenges that have to be faced for missions to be successful.

Barry will take a look at a fairly typical “small” satellite. After some photos of it being prepared for launch, there will be a tour of the various sensors and actuators on-board (some familiar and some unique to space), looking at what design and construction strategies are needed to keep everything working.

The talk will take place at the Telford Innovation Campus. To reserve a free place, please visit the Eventbrite page here:
